Sheryl Schooley, U.S.C.G. Master Captain
Our captain, Sheryl Schooley, loves Darien and the unique and pristine maritime environment that is so abundant in flora and fauna in our remote coastal area. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and there is no better way than to experience the vast landscape of the back river with her.
A photographer′s dream location
The Altamaha River Delta is a bird watching and photographic paradise. During the spring and fall migration periods, untold numbers of songbirds rest and feed in the woodlands hugging the river before resuming their epic flights.
Animals & plants flourish on our shores and in our waters
These areas are among the most important stopover and nesting sites along the Georgia Coast. Approximately 55,000 shore and sea birds are known to congregate on the fragile Islands found here. A cornucopia of wild plants and animals live in or near this mighty River. Biologists have documented upwards of 120 uncommon plants and animals in the Altamaha River in watershed, including some endemic to the area.
