Blackbeard Island

The wilderness island is owned and managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. With the exception of the main dock area, this island has no other structural improvements. It has over 5 miles of undisturbed beachs, dunes and adjacent forest or savannah and has miles of trails through the Live Oak Maritime Forest. Access to the island is limited to private boaters. Paddling kayaks or canoes to Blackbeard Island from Sapelo Island is an easy one hour paddle across BlackBeard Creek and marsh. We offer guided trips to Blackbeard Island which includes the ferry ride from the mainland to Sapelo Island and transportation to the put-in on Blackbeard Creek. Kayak as well as canoe rentals are available on Sapelo Island.
